The Thank Yous, for past donations, are piling up and I haven't written for a week. I was surprised to find out that it's only been two weeks since we wrapped. I've started work again at two jobs now and have not done as good a job balancing getting out to the Studio as I'd like but there hasn't been much to do yet.
I wrote a trailer and as soon as Brandon started editing it, he realized there was a scene that needed to be resynched (?). He thought he'd be able to get started on the trailer while the synching and sorting of footage was happening but that wasn't the case. So, things got put on hold a bit until the tedious, preliminary work got finished which should have happened last Friday.
We met with Randy, the composer, and looked through all the scenes that will need to be scored as opposed to the ones that will get songs. Randy's given me about 20 demos already and now it's my job to match up the ones I like and give him more specific notes about how I'd like to see him work with them and which scenes still don't have anything yet. Good thing is that he's come up with a couple of sounds, in particular a demo that I'm calling Josh's theme, which I love.
I'm meeting with the graphic designer next week to nail down what the title and tagline will look like at the end of the trailer. Speaking of taglines, Bill and I are having a terrible time coming up with something that's not totally cheesy. I would love to give you the ten worst, but it's too embarrassing. I've come up with a couple that I like but I'm not sure if they say enough. I'm sure big movies have someone who just does this part.
And the website is getting revamped with all the new info, new pics, etc. Will be adding music and trailer to it as soon as we're ready. So, bear with it, please.
I've watched over the whole movie and am still thrilled with how it looks. I regret that I didn't have more time with some of the performers on set because, as I mentioned earlier, it took me a little while to figure how different people worked and where they were going with their characters. And that we didn't get the time to give everything the care it deserved. But I'm sure every Director feels that way and I still think we made the right choices for the circumstances.
Meantime, our schedule is still to have a fine cut (not sound mixed or color corrected) in time for the late Sundance deadline in the end of Sept. Then we get it mixed and color corrected (our last two major expenses) and premiere in the end of November in SF for friends, family, cast and crew. That'll be several weeks after we also have our baby boy. And two weeks before we hear from Sundance.
The next round of deadlines is in December so those festivals will get a final cut.
