January 29th seems like even longer ago than it was. I've moved my family to Austin, TX and have moved on from the brief, ecstatic feelings of sharing Fifth Form with an audience for the first time. For me, the experience was good and will be better next time. I was nervous seeing it with friends and with people familiar to the story who would be looking at how their "thing" turned out. I also had watched the movie alot in the weeks leading up to the screening and was not really in a position to be surprised by anything.
That being said, I was surprised simply by the size. It does matter. It changes your relationship to the characters when they're that big. To put it simply, they get bigger. An antihero almost becomes a hero just by nature of looking good on a big screen. It's the phenomenon that Hollywood has been trading in since the big screen's inception.
We're now trying to shepherd the movie through the festival process and will hear from a couple more this month and then a flood of festivals in March. So, I look forward to informing y'all about our successes and keeping our failures to myself.
